Is there any chance that a fluid flywheel could leak after long term storage and come good again?
My car was in storage with the garage who restored it and after being finished for 4 years it has been delivered to me and there is a leak below the flywheel.

Fluid Flywheel Leak
Re: Fluid Flywheel Leak
The first thing to do is to find out exactly where the oil is coming from.
Any leak at the rear of the engine will find its way to the bottom of the bell housing making it look like a leaking flywheel.
If it is the flywheel oil it should be clean oil. If it is an engine oil leak it will be a darker colour due to being contaminated.
The rocker box cover is one of the normal sources of engine oil leaks. As the car has stood a long time it could be just loose due to the gasket compressing.

Re: Fluid Flywheel Leak
It would seem to be the flywheel oil seal leaking then.
Was the seal replaced before or during the restoration?
Original oil seals use a leather seal while modern replacements are rubber or neoprene.
Wynns make an additive that is supposed to stop oil leaks from modern seals.

You could try adding this but I have never used it so cannot say if it would be effective.
Other than trying this you will have to have the oil seal replaced.
Please let us know the outcome.

Re: Fluid Flywheel Leak
I had the same problem with my E3.5 and successfully used https://lecwec.de/. Similar thing to the additive by wynns.

Re: Fluid Flywheel Leak
Does anyone have any experience with leather seals?
Re: Fluid Flywheel Leak
Can anyone confirm it is SAE30 oil?
Re: Fluid Flywheel Leak
Flywheel oil is SAE30.
Re: Fluid Flywheel Leak
Check that it's not just a sealing washer on one of the two bungs first.
Maybe the bung is not in tight?
The modern replacement is a double lip seal arrangement, does away with the internal spring but may necessitate a bit of light machining of the recess to fit the seals back-to-back back as they are standard size outer diameter and slightly larger than the imperial sized recess.

I just realised, you are talking about 2.5 V8. None of the above will probably apply, unless it's a bung leaking. I thought it was an older model like my fifteen. Sorry to mislead.

Gearbox oil would also be clean.
