Thanks Graham and all the other respondents, I had somehow got fixed in my head through reading all the posts about oils that I needed a an SAE 90 oil. Having RTFM ( read the f****ng manual) ,please forgive the workshop language, I realised I had got it wrong.

EP 90 has now been obtained and the axle will be filled to the appropriate level.

Thank you all.

Nick

Just an addition to the DB18 worm drive, I've used Shell Valvata J460 oil in my diff. This is specified for worm drives (and steam!), its ISO 460 equivalent is SAE 140 - so I think it's ok. (I was told so!) .
Specs at http://mil-specproducts.com/Documents%5 ... %20460.pdf
Things beginning with D:
DB 18 DHC
DB 17
DA Dodge
D2 Dodge
Don't ask me why...
