OK gurus, here's my problem....
Should the induction pipe (DJ254) have a bar at both ends?

No it should not, the coolant enters at the "bar" end flows along the manifold to the opposite end then reverses back to the "bar "end where it leaves to go to the radiator for cooling.

Thanks Ian; that's what I thought but I started to wonder when the gaskets (joints) provided by one of the well known suppliers both have a bar.
A bar at both ends would in effect mean no flow.
