Connecting rod bearing Daimler 15

Post by dave70 »

Gentlemen,

I need to overhaul my engine (1937 Daimler 15 2166cc).
After some strange noise in the engine we found out that 2 of my connection rod bearings are gone.

Are there somewhere oversize rod bearings for sale, or are their other solutions?
It seems that here in Belgium not many people now how to tackle this problem.

Thanks in advance,

David

Hi David,

you have casted white-metal bearings,no shell bearings. So the white-metal has to be melted out,a new bearing has to be casted and relined.
Therefor you can contact:
Gleitlager GmbH Osterwiek
00493942161970

All the best
Claudio

I must say that if I were having a couple of big ends remetalled, then I would do the lot, not just the two. The other thing that I would be checking is the big end bearings on the crankshaft. If you have two connecting rod bearings that have "gone", then they may have affected the crankshaft in the process. Seems that you have to decide if you are just going to do a quick patch repair or to do a complete engine bottom-end rebuild.
Incidentally, from Flanders it may be as easy to get the ferry from Dunkirk and go to one of the engine rebuilders in the south of England - for example http://www.formhalls.com/801.html or http://www.fjpayne.com/ Although apparently http://www.fjpayne.com/ have a branch in the Netherlands.

The 1.805 cc engine of my 1933 Daimler has been completely rebuild here in the south-west of Germany and finished early this year. All the white metal bearings for the crankshaft (mains and big ends) and for the con rods have been made - as Claudio has mentioned too - by the German company "Gleitlager und Metallverarbeitung GmbH" in Osterwieck, Germany. You can get in contact with that company by email info@gmo-gleitlager.de or have a look at their website http://www.GMO-Gleitlager.de.

Good luck
Rolf

Hello,

Thanks a lot for the information, the plan was to do them all now the engine is open.
Can anybody gives me a idea about the common prices for this job?

Best regards,

David
