Deceased estate - 1956 Daimler Conquest, advice please

Post by chrisbwy » Tue Oct 23, 2018 3:35 pm

Dear Members,

Hope you can help please.

As part of my late Father-in-Law's estate we have a 1956 Daimler Conquest to find a new owner for.
P1080511.JPG
According to the plate it is of type DJ 250 and is showing about 4000 miles. We have one previous MOT dated 1978 which records the mileage at 3300 so believe today's mileage could be correct. The V5C shows one previous owner, the first before my father-in-law but we suspect he bought it from somebody else locally.

The car has been stored in a very dry garage for many years. We believe the previous owner was responsible for the body repairs but sadly took ill health before finishing the restoration.

The car is complete but we have not attempted to start it. A very tidy, solid and original engine bay. Underneath is very sound, no rust, just oil/waxoyl/underseal.

The interior is complete but a little tired.

The only items that are definitely missing are the rear light lenses - not sure why.

So before we advertise the car officially - probably on this forum first, can anybody help give us a guide price? That would be most appreciated.

Look forward to your help in advance. You are welcome to PM me at chrisgardnerhargreaves@yahoo.co.uk

Lots more photos available on request.

Many thanks,

Chris Hargreaves

Hello Chris,
Regretably these Daimlers are not worth very much money. Perhaps some guidance can be found here on these recent ebay completed sales:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Daimler-Conq ... 7675.l2557
or here:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Daimler-Conq ... 7675.l2557
And this one currently on sale:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Daimler-Conq ... ctupt=true
which at the time of writing has about 2hrs to run and hasn't been sold at the £1,700 asking price.
Your one looks to be very good and original and hopefully there will be a member out there somewhere interested to take it on and keep it out of the hands of the banger racers, it looks too good to be used for that.

Just wondering whether that should be 40,000 miles? That doesn't look like a 4,000 mile driver's seat to me.

Hagerty values Conquests at between £3.5k for 'Fair' examples to £10.7k for 'Concours'. Hagerty's values are usually a reasonable reflection of the state of the market'; however, that market for Conquests is relatively small.

Also Chris, if you want to reach the widest possible membership of the club ask to advertise it in the club magazine The Driving Member. That goes to all members, not all members use the internet forum.

Hello Chris,

The magazine is monthly and the editor (Kevin) normally requires six weeks notice for articles etc with a degree of flexibility.

Kevin Bennett can be contacted via editordloc@dsl.pipex.com

He is a very decent chap and I'm sure he will be able to advise accordingly.

Good luck.
