Post by Beat Weibel »

Hello Experts
has anybdy experience with the automatic gearbox of a Majestic Major (see http://forum.dloc.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4272).
Reverse seems to be hard to be selected and change into 2nd slow.
What could be the fault? What about draining an filling with fresh oil?
Any adive is very welcome
Best regards

The gearbox is a Borg warner DG . Slowness to engage could be a number of problems , but the very first I would look for is low fluid level. The level has to be checked with the fluid at running temperature and with the engine idling ( handbrake on ) and the selector in the L position . Other possibilities are a clogged filter or valve block, which require the box to be drained and the pan taken off to gain access

Hi Beat,
I had a look at the car two years ago. It needs a total mechanical rebuild. It was not used for many years.
It will take a lot of money and time to bring it back on the road.

Hi Christopher
Just for curiosity, what type of oil would you recommend for the automatic gearbox?
Castrol Classic TQ-F?

Castro’s TQF is the recommended oil for the DG gearbox.

Greville.

Yes -Castro oil - but it's a bit of a "Fidel" to get at the filler plug!
