I have overhauled the front suspension and steering over the winter and are now connecting the steering. What is the correct position of the steering wheel for straight ahead ? I have positioned it with the split in the boss bottom , spoke vertical but the drop arm looks to be slightly off centre in the worm .any advice would be welcome.

Sorry I don’t know your model but the spokes are usually set so that you can see the dials clearly. ie 2 main dials have a three spoke wheel with one spoke vertical between the dials. 1 dial would have a three spoke wheel with two spokes set at ten and two o’clock. Hope that makes sense.

Thank you for the reply. perhaps I should elaborate my problem. I had dismantled the suspension and steering for refurbishment over the winter . One matter I attended to was the excessive play in the steering which on removing the rocker shaft had two thrust washers plus various shims, the parts catalogue clearly states one thrust washer , shims as required so,. I removed the second one and all the play disappeared.I have got as far as placing the steering idler ( which pivots under the rad )into its central position and connected the track rods and adjusted them to give the wheels the straight ahead position . I now need to connect the tie rod from the steering box to the idler and have two choices , one spoke vertical or a Y , ( one third of a turn difference) both positions show the rocker shaft about central but which position is correct ,

So just to confirm, the steering wheel should be positioned like an inverted y.

If the steering is central, then turning left or right should be the same degree of turn (from memory its 2 2/3 end to end) If this is good then job done.

If not get the steering in the middle, then move the steering wheel to correct orientation.

Hope this helps

Thank you Db NJ the correct position of the steering wheel for the S S is an inverted Y ( like the Conquest range ). Have re assembled and took it out for a test drive yesterday and it drove beautifully with very little play in the steering,I just need to fine tune the track rods to achieve one eighth toe in .
Many thanks
