Daimler 2 1/2 Litre - 6 CYLINDER - MAIN BEARINGS

Post by classiclife »

Hello,

The following may be of interest to someone.

Spotted on eBay a set of Vandervell Main Bearings in original packing & boxes for a 2 1/2 Litre Daimler 6 CYLINDER, which I think had a 4x bearing crankshaft ??

Vandervell reference is VP 289 and the bearings are STD size.

3x sets for £30 or offer with £8 postage on top; that seems very decent to me.

eBay reference is 273905694029

Regards.

Sounds great value. 3 different sizes would be too much to wish for
Any idea as to which engine?

Hello Marcel,

I spoke with FW Thornton and it was they who flagged the engine size, cylinder arrangement and crankshaft spec. I did not press further, although I would expect the information would be forthcoming if contacted.

All the best.

Just checked a Vanderville parts book VP289 are the main bearings for the Conquest and Roadster. Unfortunately my book doesn’t go back any earlier.
If anyone has an earlier copy it would be nice to know if they fitted any of the early cars.

It appears that the DB18 and earlier cars had Glacier bearings.

I've just checked the eBay reference number, Marcel, with no trace of the item now. They appear to have been purchased or the listing has expired.

Hopefully they have gone to a good Daimler home.

Regards.

They have. I purchased them.
If anyone needs any let me know. It should be possible to get them re metalled for anyone who has required a crank regrind.
