Daimler 15 Light Sportsman Engine overhauling

Post by Culbu »

Hello guys,

Winter is the best season to rebuild an engine, reason why I intend to overhaul the engine of my 15 Light Sportsman.

I suppose that the Daimler 15 Haynes Owners Workshop Manual does not exist... Any technical documents available ? Any setting torques ? Any ideas of the different plays between the parts, etc... ?

Thank you for your help.

Kind regards,

Julian

Hi Julian,
I found some info ( 8 pages) in "Volume 2, Second Edition (revised),Motor Repair and Overhauling by Newness). You can find them on eBay, but I think only the earlier editions have Daimler 15 info.

PM me and I will share some info people have given me over the years

Bob

When stripping remember to remove all core plugs and spend plenty of time cleaning out the rust and debris. Don't be too surprised if you find a rusty nail it could have been left in from the casting. Foundries often use them to strengthen the sand cores.
When you have gone through sorting the engine spend some time to strip and rebuild the water pump.

I would suggest you also check the cast plugs (11 I think) on the head. I thought the head was cracked, but the machine shop said no it wasn't cracked but one of the plugs has rusted through. Had them all changed when he redid the heads.

Thank you Bob. I’m used to always replace the different plug cores each time I overhaul an engine. Easy job and cheap parts so no reason why to not do it !

A question : how may I be sure of the cylinder capacity of my Daimler 15 : 1805 or 2003 or 2166 cc ?

Of course, I can know it by measuring the bore and the stroke but could the engine's number help... ?
