Really strange phenomenon happened today. Having put fuel in the car after sender change I noticed a strong petrol smell. There was nothing coming from the boot area. On opening the bonnet and checking at the pump for any leaks there was a vapour coming from the side of the fuel pump. It was quite cold outside albeit engine reasonably warm. I've never seen anything like it before.
The fuel pump had a repair kit a few years ago but there is some thread damage on the top bolt and one of the flange bolts (although all seemed tight) so I think its time to have the threads heli-coiled and the pump rebuilt. Does anyone know a Wiltshire (or close by) engineering company who does this work or if not somewhere reliable to send the pump. Thanks in advance.

Hi Mark
Is it worth the trouble when you can get a replacement for a few quid on the web? Type T or U are interchangeable.

Sound advice Graham - but do remember Mark that although A.C. pumps are "common" per model type - the operating arms vary specific to the engine application, although they are interchangable at a pinch.
There is a chap "up north" who visits autojumbles who specialises in A.C. pumps - but I cannot find his card in my file - so have a troll through the internet as Graham suggests.

Re: DB18/2 vapour from fuel pump
A good clean, chased the threads and a new service kit has resolved the problem so a quick spin out today and ran very nicely.
However the mice are back and have done some damage, including building a nest. At least the little varmint had the sense to run away, no doubt he'll be back. A fresh set of laundry sheets in the car but I'm not convinced it will keep them out. The sonic device clearly isn't keeping them away.

I had this problem. Solved it with 4 mousetraps, one at each wheel, placed just inside the tyre. No more mouse.

Stan, Is it Dave Davies in Atherton you were trying to remember? If anybody wants his contact details, send me a private message. All the best, Ranald

A great product from Screwfix (1 x Pest-Stop Electronic Mouse Killer (45407)) has despatched 2 mice since Sunday and a third found dead before I actually laid the trap.
