My 1951 consort isn’t charging, I’ve tested the dynamo and that checks out so I’m guessing it’s the regulator, anyone know what type it is and where the best place is to get one?
Cheers
Graham

Re: Not charging
Hello Graham,
Presume it's a Lucas RF95 regulator - not cheap either !! That said it is a common shared item between numerous marques AND it can be adjusted if charging rate is incorrect or not charging.
I'd certainly want to be checking every bit of wiring and connection before going the regulator replacement route.
Have you charged the battery with an external charger to see if it is holding it's charge - easily tested with a multimeter or fitting and turning the headlights on. If they fade quickly then the battery is likely to be the issue.
Have you carried out any other checks ??
Regards.
Richard.

Re: Not charging
Hello Graham,
If the regulator is defective, it may be worth contacting this company (based in Lincolnshire) who rebuild them - how much, I do not know.
Regards.

Re: Not charging
I had a similar problem on my DB18 sports special. I used Sprint Electrics near Warminster PM me for details. He charged about £60 to test and set up the regulator. I took my dynamo as well so he could put it all on his test rig.

Re: Not charging
Thanks guys, I’ve tested the dynamo and it’s putting out a good voltage but the battery is only showing 12,6 volts when the engine is running fast, also the ammeter doesn’t show a charge, I’ll have a look at the web sites tonight

Re: Not charging
Hello Graham,
Can you swap the battery for a known good one - any type will do for testing purposes.
I'm not privy to Consort wiring and as such I do not know if the ammeter takes its information from the regulator or dynamo.
I've never had a faulty regulator in any classic - they are sturdy beasts, but your car is 60yrs+ and yes it's a possibility it may be playing up. Do you have a WSM that shows how to adjust the regulator - the WSM will also confirm which regulator model you have, although as stated I think it is probably the RF95 9post.
Image attached for comparison.
Regards.
Richard.
