Took my Consort for Xday spin.
Wonderful weather empty roads
One of my daughters, a composer, said 'what's that high-pitched noise that sounds like an ambulance is round the corner.'
I couldn't hear it. But - we've identified that it comes from the water pump.
I've greased it up - even going so far as temporarily blocking the bleed hole that tell you when it's full up.
I presume it's a front or back bearing.
Any ideas?

Re: Ravages of time
Would have thought a bearing might make a rumbling noise not high pitch .what about the belt try spinning pump with belt removed.
Bearings are cheap but seal on shaft might fail if in a poor state fitting a new seal needs a press and care.plus the seating face may need machining.
Let us hope you are lucky .

Re: Ravages of time
I have established the problem - it is the fan belt slightly chaffing on the side of the water pump pulley-
Does anyone have an contact where you can get the right fan belt for the engine i.e. one of the right width as the one I have (tongued) its at the bottom of the pulley and the next size up that I can find of the right length is too wide for the top of the pulley.

Re: Ravages of time
John is recovering and has managed to get the eBay shop up and running again which is good to see.
Hopefully he will get everything back to normal soon.

Mick,
Just a thought (and remembering many years of fault finding in industry) - I wonder of its worth checking the pulley alignment ?
The rational for this suggestion is that (presumably) the problem only manifested itself after the damper/pulley was changed.
On that basis, might be worth checking that the damper lines-up with the dynamo and the waterpump - it is possible that the damper
is not fully engaged.

I'll check that out - it is most likely the dynamo pulley - My next focus of attention
