Build Your Own Hydrogen Generator

Post by mickeytwonames »

I've hear tell that this system - quite easy to build - can dramatically improve MPG
Has anyone heard of or experimented with this concept - there's quite a lot of stuff on the internet about it

Build Your Own Hydrogen Generator
Run Your Car On Tap Water Free!
Run Your Car on Hydrogen, Free
overview:
A bottle, under the hood, containing electrodes (about 1.5 mm [1/16th inch] apart), is (almost) filled with water. When the engine is started, the water is separated into hydrogen and oxygen, on demand, and the hydrogen produced is directed into a 2nd bottle and then to the engine through the air intake, which may or may not be mixed with gasoline, sprayed in, also. [from fuel injectors] The hydrogen, a gas, explodes, completely, 100%, not just some small percentage like the liquid gasoline being sprayed in with it.

Sounds a bit Heath Robinson-ish and dangerous. However, I'm in favour of hydrogen power for cars as discussed only a week or two ago, but via a pressure tank in the boot (trunk).

This one has been wandering around the internet for years - and you can now easily buy HHO kits to 'improve' your fuel economy. See here for example. The tricky bit is that they would seem to contravene the law of Conservation of energy. An extract from the website linked above reads ...."An "On Demand" Hydrogen Generator, which uses the spare electrical energy of your car's alternator to electrolyze water and cause the instantaneous separation of hydrogen and oxygen atoms out of a tank of distilled water with a very small amount of electrolyte added". Your alternator does not produce "spare electrical energy"; it produces the electrical energy demanded by your cars electrical systems and no more. If you now place a demand on the alternator to produce more energy to power an electrolysis set-up, it will do so - but only by taking more power from the engine which in turn will burn more fuel to provide it. You don't get owt for nowt!

Still far be it from me to deter anyone from trying the concept out - and let us know your results.

Thanks - I will undertake a test, see what results and report back. If not see you all in Daimler Heaven!
