Engine fan on a DJ252

Post by ROSS70JEN »

Hi all been out in my DJ252 in the hot sun and in a traffic jam the engine got warm but was just ok.
When I got home i checked my DJ260 and found it had a 4 blade fan not a 2 blade as the DJ252.
Was the fan changed on the MK 2 Conquest Century?
Has any one got a Spare 4 blade fan they could sell me please ?
Many thanks Bryan

Hello,

I think the 4 Blade Fans were fitted only on the Export models. On a Conquest I had I felt I needed a 4 Blade fan but could nit get one. So as the pulley had four holes, I fitted another 2 Blade fan at right angles to the original. This gave better cooling.

The Conquest 4 blade fan is indeed 2 two blade fans fitted to the water pump. I have done this modification - I think I even used the same bolts (1/4 UNF) as they were long enough.

It is a relatively easy but fiddly fit. It can be done without removing anything. If the rad has been re-cored with a deeper core, it can be difficult to get the blade over the nose of the water pump. You will need to check the alignment of the blades once in place (bend as required!).

I may have a spare two blade fan. I will check over the weekend.

Hello Bryan et al

This may not be practical but it's worth posting on this thread: a Majestic Major 6 blade fan fits a Conquest/Century fan boss.

I was fortunate to have one in my "may be required some time " spares box, and after suffering the engine cutting out in hot weather syndrome a couple or three times I fitted it. I also fitted a red rotor arm, which may have actually been the cure, but I've left the fan on. I'd really rather keep the original two blade fan in case of future need, but may I suggest that you ask David Beales or John Nash if they have either a two or a six. Also if you don't have a red rotor arm in the distributor, do get one from the Distributor Doctor!

Best regards
