Daimler V8 sump plug

Post by keithj »

HI, I am having trouble finding the correct sump plug for my car. The engine has been rebuilt and allegedly had a new sump fitted. As I had to trailer the car back from the rebuilder after 22 months of failed promises I can't get much sense from them about what happened. Mostly everything seems OK but the sump plug leaks. It seems to have a taper fit plug with no shoulder which I suspect is incorrect. Searching the internet and buying a replacement from a well known specialist supplier has pro0vided what seems to be the correct part number (C23435) but is slightly smaller in diameter than the hole. Anyone got any suggestions, hopefully even a [part number. My car is a 1964 2.5.

Is this for a V8 saloon ??

If so, the sump thread is 5/8"UNF.

A magnetic version can be purchased, I got mine from Rimmers as the plug also fits a TR6.

Thanks, yes that is the plug I ordered and it is too small. I have now ordered a larger “oversize” plug that apparently is often used when someone rethreads a damaged hole. If that doesn’t work I think I might be looking to have it drilled and threaded to a known size.

Okay Keith, no wonder you were asking questions of the company !!

Sounds as though the sump has gone out to 3/4"unf or even metric perhaps ??

Regards.

Richard.
