Special Sports Rev Counter

Post by tpickering »

Hello

I have just removed the generator form my 1950 SS and there is no drive unit (or anywhere I can see to fit one) for the rev counter
Can any one help please?

The generator on the car is Lucas Model C45PV Type 11 238186

Thank you

Trevor :?: :?:

Trevor.

Sorry I can’t help. I have done some searching in the past, and can’t find any other model that uses this unit.

Can anyone else identify where the end plate is used on other makes or models ?

Hi Trevor,
You have the correct Dynamo for your car, but are missing the little gearbox that connects to a take off drive at the back of the Dynamo. As David says they were not common to many cars and are now like the proverbial hen’s teeth. I do recall being told that they were used on some MG models of the period,

IIRC these were used on Ford tractors. You might find a Ford site useful.

Hi,
Answer to your prayer:

Speedograph Richfield Ltd <info@speedographrichfield.com>

Tell them that the guy who ordered one from Australia is still waiting for his delivery.

Make sure you get the correct ratio.

RGB 1014 03 Gearbox : this should be the correct one.
When I ordered it last year they explained that they were having to make up an order from the foundry and it might take some time.

It cost 107 pounds

Cheers

Many thanks for all the replies. What a great place this forum is :D

I have found that Derek Sleigh in the UK is listing these gearboxes at www.sleigh.madasafish.com and have sent him an e mail.
If this fails I will get on to Speedograph Richfield ( thanks Peter)

The gearbox is only part of the problem as the end cap on my generator has no where to screw on the drive unit ( thanks for the picture Chris )so does any one have the correct generator or just end cap they could sell please ?

I regret that the Ford drive unit will not fit but thanks for takiing the time to help me.

Thanks again to all

Trevor

Interesting news.

I don’t think Derek had any (I was looking at the end of last year) not sure about Richfield.

The Dynamo end is still a mystery to me - I haven’t found another Dynamo on another car that fits. Of course, there would be some mods to do to the armature as well to turn the gearbox.

I take it the cable is also missing ?

Thank for that

A new cable is on it's way from Uk as that was also missing and I am hoping I can find an end plate for the generator and the gearbox.

If anyone can help further it would be much appreciated.

regards

Trevor
