brake linings

Post by chrisb »

Can anyone recommend a supplier of brake linings for my Conquest Century please?
The linings are a couple of inches shorter than the shoe. On the rear wheels, this gap is to the rear of the car, top and bottom. Is this right?

I have just ordered a set for my lj 200 from John Nash. Parts@daimlerclub.co.uk or daimler enthusiasts club. This club as dozens of parts on eBay and lots more besides. I found it well joining

For quite some time I've had linings from this firm:

as their prices were pretty close to "trade" . However, more recently a few sets I've enquired about have been unavailable although they have offered to reline the shoes. Quite why this should be, who knows, but it may be worth asking for what you are looking for.

Chris,

Yes, re gaps.

You only have a single leading shoe on the rear brakes (so you have at least SOME braking in reverse!!!!

The linings on a Century are as follows :

Front GG72/1 : Lining length 10 9/16" Width 2 1/4"

Rear GG72/1 Leading
GG68/1 trailing : length 9 5/8" Width 2 1/4"

The GG 68/1 and 72/1 were common linings at the time to various cars, the easiest to describe being the Riley RMF which was an identical set-up front and rear. Other cars such as Rover used them but there are changes from year to year so I'll not confuse things further except to say that for the 72/1 type, these might be worth a look considering they are ready to fit :

I had my front brake shoe's relined with the guys below - £38ish it took them 3-4 days to do, they did not use rivets, they used glue and said it would not come close to getting too hot and degrading.
