Thanks for the info Dennis - I'll give him a ring first thing Monday.

After buying the car I noticed an electric pump in series with the correct AC pump - so I naturally thought the latter had failed but was still in circuit to utilise the sediment trap. However, upon stripping the pump, I found it to be in perfect condition - then traced the problem which was probably the reason for two pumps ...............

....... the pipe to the carb was virtually blocked up with plating residue.

The electric pump apparently was fitted by the people who did a £6000 engine overhaul less than 1000 before I bought the car - which only proves my old adage - Its not the car thats the problem - its the experts that got to it before you.

They also left the key out of the water pump drive and assembled the distributor bob weights the wrong way round. I wonder who's cardbard they used for big end shells???

That said, I still query if the AC pump should have a return spring on the actuating arm.
