Pre-Selector Problem

Post by StuartBAndrews »

I have a problem with the Pre-Selector on my LA10.
I drove the car quite normally out of my garage.
I went to select reverse and engaged the drive.
However, it did not engage and the pedal feels like "false neutral".
I tried depressing fully the pedal to reset it but to no avail.
Now I cannot engage drive in any position. In reverse the "false Neutral" remains,
in all other positions the pedal travel is a lot shorter than normal.
I have tried depressing the pedal at every conceivable position of the selector lever and the symptoms remain the same.

Can someone give me some advice on how to rectify this.
Many thanks
Stuart

Hi, Stuart, I would suggest that you disconnect the Linkage, then push the Selector on the Gearbox, fully Rearwards. Before reconnecting, start the Engine and depress the selector pedal , see if this overcomes the problem, then readjust the linkage to suit.
Hopefully nothing has actually broken in the Gearbox, but if you do need to get it sorted professionally, then Graham Whitehouse Autos Ltd ( Birmingham) is the man to contact,

If Al's linkage test doesn't work, it could be the throw on the gearchange pedal has slipped.

Either lengthen the adjustable rod by slackening the locknut, removing the elbow and "undo" the threaded piece by a couple of turns - this is a bit trial and error! - or take the lever attached to the box back another spline and try - again this is a bit trial and error if it has slipped.

Give me a ring if you get stuck. Number in back of DM.

I've removed the long link on the gear selector linkage and turned the selector lever to the extent of its travel and pressed the engaging pedal.... with no effect. :(
I have adjusted the engaging pedal link so that it enables the full rotation of the lever shaft in both directions.
Regardless of what I have done the symptoms have remained the same.
I noticed with the engine running the the prop shaft tries to turn when the gearbox is "engaged" in reverse gear,
but does not drive.
I am now at a complete loss, has anyone any further ideas?

Stuart

Mmmm, sounds like something has gone awry in the Box itself, is there anybody who lives near Stuart that could give a hand to take a look, I wonder ??

Cheers A'l :D :D :D

Up with the floorboards, off with the top of the box and see what's happening when you depress the gearchange pedal.

Get the phone on the go and film it, then upload to here so we can see,
