Well now I understand the need for flushing but I'm still reluctant about paraffin so I've invested in some Morris Flushing Oil. Not much more expensive than paraffin.

Took the opportunity to order some Steering Box SAE140 and some Damper oil as well as 25 litres of SAE30, a bargain at £88.

The flushing oil seems a good idea for the gearbox. Let us know what colour it is once you have used it! All the best, Ranald

Graham,
The flushing oil will NOT do the job and will not scour the gear trains properly.
Use paraffin as recommended by Daimler. It has been successful for me in all the years I have owned a pre - select (which is many)

What is your reluctance to using paraffin Graham? It's actually a very good lubricant and has lubricated my boiler main bearing for nearly fifty years under the guise of Kerosene. It is also widely used as a lubricant in industry I believe.

Funny it didn't look upside down when I posted it!

Why am I reluctant to use paraffin?
I'm bordering on snobbery when I say it's just seems too crude to use inside the gearbox. Yes I use paraffin to clean parts and it's better than anything (except petrol) so why not? The Flushing Oil does claim to scour too but I will heed your advice and use paraffin.
(I may then use some flushing oil to remove the residual paraffin! Just to satisfy my snobbery. ;) )
We really should have started a new thread with all this.

While I have the floor plate off I'll fit that battery isolating switch I bought years ago.

Not sure I've heard of paraffin snobbery before :)

No need to flush, Graham. Just refill with 30 grade.
Trust me!!

I don't mind my post morphing into flushing pre-select gearboxes. There is a lot to learn or simply be reminded about on this forum and I am very grateful to the contributors. Going back to the post, I telephoned Comma and they stand by the 600 mile period.
