Lanchester LA10 Fuel issue

Post by Morris Mike »

Fully rebuilt engine and ancillaries.

Engine will not suck petrol into cylinders.

I have had it running but always difficult to start.

Just fitted rebuilt cylinder head.

Compression at plug outlets.

Now will not start at all.
Good spark at plugs.

Just not getting fuel through.

Help.

If you have a reserve fuel system check that the cork seals aren't dried out. I had to replace mine as it wouldn't run for more than a couple of minutes. Other air leaks could be at the pump and in the fuel line and joints. Good luck

Fuel getting to the rebuilt carb as it is spitting out.

Does not seem to be drawing the petrol from the carb into the inlet manifold.

All new gaskets .
No leaks.

Are all the spark plugs completely dry after failed starting attempts. You have had it running, so I assume timing is ok and carb is tuned. After these occasions when it has started and run, can you immediately restart the warm engine?

I had it briefly running last week but it then decided not to start.

Checked compression which was down .

Removed cylinder head.

Rebuilt head .
Refitted head .
Good compression now.

Still no fuel getting to plugs.

What type of carb do you have, fixed jet or variable jet?

Are you sure the tappets are not to tight might be better on the loose side until it has ran for a while, spitting back through the carb would also happen get some one to stick their had over carb so it has to suck fuel.

3061 carb fitted.

New rebuild kit fitted from Burlen Fuel Systems.

I was told to tighten up the mixture screw underneath and then open it up about 5 flats.

Is this correct.?

Sounds like an SU. Not sure how many flats it has but the manual should say. One and a half turns out sounds more common to me which is probably a bit more than five flats. Five flats could be too weak? Try it one and a half to two turns out.
