Lanchester Light Six

Post by Culbu »

Good afternoon,

I've just bought an engine/gearbox set supposed coming from a 1938 Lanchester Light Six. The engine is a 1446cm3 6 cylinders, with the water pump linked at the dynamo, and the exhaust gas collector directly fixed on the carb. Can anyone confirm me that the engine comes from a Light Six ?

Here is 2 pictures of the engine :

Thanks,

Julian

According to the DaimlerAndLanchester.com website, my engine seems to come from an early Lanchester E18. It would be a 2390cc ohv engine with non detachable cylinder head.

Can any Lanchester E18 owner confirm... ?

Thanks

Info from DaveP for you............................

The engine is indeed looks to be from a "Light Six" and dates from 1935/36.

The Light Six engine was a monobloc unit of 1,378c.c,rated at 12.09 RAC HP, (bore 57mm; stroke 90mm). The position of such as the oil filter assembly and starter motor differs to that of the 2,390c.c. "18" engine. Also the rocker cover is different (last bit was from me!)
Normal for Norfolk

Thank you very much for this first reply.

Does anyone else confirm, even if Theoldman is certainly right ?

If someone could send me some pictures of a Light Six engine, both sides...

Thanks again,

Julian

The water pump looks right for a light six.

If you look on page 5 of the current club magazine you will see Tony Fardoe's Lanchester 12/6. His contact details are on the back page of the magazine. All the best, Ranald

No doubt, it's a 12/6 Lanchester engine. Good news. Now I have to find a rolling frame...

Thanks everybody
