Hi Al, Strange. I thought they built new SU carbs to order. On their website they say "Burlen now manufacture all SU carburetters and all SU Electric and mechanical fuel pumps". I know someone who I believe had an SU HV3 from them recently. All the best, Ranald

Hi Ranald, yes I did ask the chap at Burlen Carburettors, but there seems to be a holdup in getting some of the castings produced unfortunately.

Cheers Al

Hello Al,

I've put a couple of feelers out and had a very good response.

This one in particular may prove useful, I've not had personal dealings.

Regards.

Richard.

Hi Richard, thanks but I’m afraid that there’s lots of parts missing, and I’m looking for one in better condition.
The pictures below are another one I spotted on e- bay, but having discussed it with the chap at Burlen
it would seem that the Venturi, is the wrong size, the one that I require should have a 1- 1/8” Venturi.
So will keep looking , but many thanks for your help .

Cheers Al

If you look carefully, you will notice that there is a Blanking Plug missing just above the mixture adjusting Nut, also the Butterfly Spindle looks much too long, best left alone methinks !!

Hello Al,

I reckon it's worth contacting them, as they say:

We also hold large stocks of carburettor spares and repair kits and can offer a prompt mail order service.

You never know, they may just have what you are looking for and without a doubt people in these professions have a significant network of contacts; it's a ripple effect that quite often comes up trumps...…………………. thank goodness !!

The search is never finished, until you have finished with the search.

Regards.

Hi Al, Not wanting to teach my granny to suck eggs, but have you read the history and technical etc on the Burlen site, a lot of useful information on how to decide which carburettor is the correct one for your engine.

It may be the HV range may well not suit, what I did learn if that the number following the first two letters eg HV refers to the chock size in half inches, so a HV4 is a HV series unit with a two inch choke.

Hope that helps. Syd

Hi Syd, thanks for that, I’m pretty certain that the chap at Burlen said that I needed an HV2, the Choke size on my existing Solex being about 1 1/8” .
I’ll certainly take a l@@k at the Burlen site just to confirm .🤔🤔

Many thanks Al 😀😀

Hi, yes, just taken a look at the Burlen website, and can confirm that the model of SU that I require is definitely an HV2 AUC 296.

CheersAl 😀😀

I'm not familiar with the Solex carb but it seems strange that an over rich mixture can't be corrected somehow. Does it use a piston and needle like the SU or is it a fixed jet? What are the mixture adjusting features?
