Hi Chaps, whilst talking about Valve Stem Seals, I thought that it would be a good idea to show owners my ”mod”.
I have also included a picture showing the Spring Clips that are fitted to prevent the Valve from dropping down into the Cylinder Bore in the event of a Valve Spring breaking.
If the Spring Clips are missing, they can easily be re-made by cutting the coils from a very small Spring .

I should add, that although the Seals are a “ Push fit” onto the Valve Guides, I secured them in position with a spot of Super Glue ,to ensure the did not lift if they came into contact with the Valve Springs . 😀

Next job, we’ll having refitted all of the Valves etc, I have discovered that the Core Pliug at the rear of the Head, has some very slight Rust marks around part of one edge, so it’s off to my local Engine overhaulers to pick up a couple of new Core Plugs, let’s hope all goes well with it’s replacement , will keep one as a spare !

Cheers Al :)

Hi Chaps, new Core Plug now fitted, so I turned my attention to another problem that has been bugging me for longer that I can remember.
Im not sure if any of you other owners has experienced the same problem, but I have noticed that the Head Gasket has a tendency to allow water to permeate along or through it ( not sure which) which then exits along the edge of the Head Gasket, anyway it’s always been an “Anoyance” , so I thought that while I Head was off, I would at least try and find an answer.
I had noticed that most of the Cooling System Ports in the Head were suffering from corrosion around the edges, so I have used this product ( pictured) to build up the corroded edges to hopefully help prevent these leakages.
The product in question is called Hysol 3475A & B produced by Loctite, this is a superb product that I have used with great success in the past on other applications, and it’s very “Tough” !!

Take a look at the rest of the pictures, this will show how the edges of the holes can be retrieved.

I have now repainted the Cyl Head and it looks great!

Cheers Al 😀😀😀

Thanks Chaps, managed to get the Engine back in this afternoon with help from a Peter Russell, was a bit of a struggle, but got there in the end, Radiator in place etc, will take some photos, and put them on here later 😀😀
One thing I did forget to mention in a previous post , re Water seepage from the side of the Head Gasket, was that a mate of mine, who has probably forgotten more than I know, suggested Annealing the Head Gasket prior to fitting, which I did very carefully using my Gas Blow Lamp, and then dunking it into a sink full of water, it will be interesting to see if this helps, As a precaution,I also gave the Gasket a light coating of Wellsesl, for good measure.😀😀

Cheers Al😀

Hi, hers a few more piccys, showing the Engine in position, plus some of pipe work that I’ve
resprayed,

The worst job so far, and for any body who has had to connect fit that darned Bottom Hose Casting onto the bottom of the Radiator will know exactly what I’m talking about ! It’s an absolute Pig , to get lined up, as it fits in an aperature in the Radiator Support Cross Member,.
The Drain Tap was non operational, so decided to fit another spare one that had a good Tap in it, do you think that dam Casting would fit? Well after about an hour and a half trying, I gave up and fitted the original one back on, lining up the pipework that passes up through the Chassis to connect up with the Thermostat By- Pass in another patience testing item..
So anyway, it’s now nearly 11.00 pm and to be honest, I’ve had enough for one day !!
Time for a shower, and Bed 💤💤💤💤

Cheers Al 😒😒😒

You can clearly see where the Hose has chaffed against the Chassis, it actually passes up through a Box section, and to say it’s a tight fit is an understatement !!

Hi Chaps, when started the Engine was very lumpy and sounded decidedly unwell, checked the Ignition time which needed slight adjustment, but was still not running well after adjustment .
After much head scratching, I remembered the I had changed one of the Jets in an attempt to make the engine run slightly weaker ( bad decision! ) so replaced the original one, and now running fine, but have just one Tappet letting me know it’s there .

Cheers Al 😀😀

All looks very impressive! Can I just you about your thermostat? Where is it sited? What temperature does it open at? Is it in a housing or just fitted directly into the hose? Thanks, Ranald
