Head Light Reflectors

Post by sp250boy »

Gent's
Just wiring my headlights for my 1939 La11 and will probably fit LED or a filament.

The reflective dishes in the headlight bowel are damaged and wondered if you can buy replacements?

Any suggestions gratefully rec'd
It is a Lanchester

If it’s only the silver plating that’s damaged the reflectors of your, er, bowels can be resilvered.

I recall a chap who attended autojumbles and big shows with a stand on a very regular basis - he and his wife primarily dealt with re-silvering classic and vintage headlights etc.

Think he is in the Suffolk / Cambs area.

Will check when in the garage tomorrow, I may still have his card to hand, but cannot promise !!

Regards.

Perhaps you're thinking of Keith Ardley, Richard. He's based in Ely, Cambs. Not sure if he's still active but he used to be the go-to guy for resilvering and repair of vintage lights. His email was kieth@ardley8142.fsnet.co.uk (No that's not a typo - the first word is 'kieth')

There’s a company that has appeared a couple of times on car restoration programs in recent years “Genius of the lamp”
I’ve never used them but they looked very professional on the tv.

Thanks Nick,

Spot-on, it is indeed Keith Ardley; he was at the Daimler / Jaguar Spares Day in either October or November last year and seemed to be doing a decent trade. Hopefully the Covid situation has not forced him to consider calling it a day.

As you say, he is the first port-of-call for such work.

Best wishes.
