LD10 head torque

Post by cochwillan »

Hi folks, I am new to this forum, but have been restoring an basket case LD10 on/off for many years. I am now awaiting a head gasket arriving and would be pleased if somebody could give me the torque for the head nuts.
The engine and box are back in the car, I'm now sorting though rusty tins and boxes for fittings. I think I have the connecting rods etc for the gear select sorted, but am at a loss to find anything relevant to the other side of the gearbox. There is a connecting rod about 7" long which fits to the pedal and that is it. I cannot figure why there is a round knob on the gearbox, and some sort of adjusting screw near the speedo drive. I hope to get the original number back and have the car on the road this year.
I will be pleased with any help with the above points, thanks.

Hi Howard welcome to the forum the Cylinder head nut torque is of 36-41 lbs ft. (51 – 56 Newton Metres)

What's the chassis number and Reg of your car? as might be able to assist with you retaining the number

and here is an exploded diagram of the gearbox selector components that Peter has shown you

Guys

While on this topic I'd like to get a pair, or even just one, of part no 52, the "engaging rod roller joint" at each end of the gear change pedal rod, to have in the spares box. Can anyone suggest a source? I've tried john Nash without success.

One of them let go in a former Century of mine in the early 60s. Fortunately the gearbox was left in second gear so I did get home, and then they were still available new. This came to me again in a dream the other night and I'd like to be prepared for when it happens again, or preferably avoid it if possible!

I hope this doesn't start a stampede.

Cheers

Geoff

Thank you for your replies and info, most helpful.
The Reg. No is JYW 211 , car No 62711.
I do have the original log book, first registered 1948 London.

Glad to hear ! was last heard from in 1991, even then it was off the DVLA radar.
JYW is a London Registration. If you have the original log book it's no problem to retain the original number.

Do you have any photos of the car for the LD10 register?

The Swivel joints are available from Gavin Collinson, who does the major Autojumbles trading as Postal Parts.
His mobile is 07572 148106 email sales@postalparts.co.uk. Web site http://www.postalparts.co.uk.
Can't remember the price but they were genuine Amal and not expensive.
