My bushings need pruning !

Post by Robdavies »

Hello good people, the scraping and painting continues on my 1937 - 15, using old school, low tech paints. The thing which is becoming very evident is that just about every bit of rubber has perished from the little oil seals to washer pads and all of the bushings I've come across. For example last night striping down the front brake rods the bushing on the pivot has completely gone bye byes. Is there a simple solution to this, ie a company who specialises in antique Daimler bushings, some hope ! Or if specific dimensions and photos are collected there is a place that can manufacturer them, or does the D&L owners club have stocks or contacts? Again thank you for you time and collective wisdom.

The DLOC don't have any but I have engine and gearbox mounts and can also get various brake gaiters.

You could try David Beale's or John Nash.

Hi Rob. Re your Brake Rod Joint wear, I went to Wentin Fasteners, and purchased a complete set of Oversize Clevis Pins, and then purchased the appropriate sized Tapered Reamer.
It's then, simply a case of "Line Reaming" the whole Joint in One go. Once reamed, simply press the Clevis Pin into position, and fit a Split Pin.
Let me know how you get on.

Cheers A'l 8-)

N.B. Ensure that the final Diameter of the Reamer, is the same as the Clevis Pin, of course !!

A'h, just realised, that you are situated on Gib, contact me again in a couple of weeks time, when I' m back from my holiday, I may be able to help you locate the Pins and the correct Reamer.

Cheers A'l

Hi Al, thanks, a good tip. Actually I got a bit lucky, here like most places engineering workshops have become a rarity, in Gibraltar with the military practically gone, I thought all had closed. However word of mouth led me to a soon to be closed workshop full of beautiful old abandend machines and just one guy left to work them. He used to repair battleships but now has to maintain the rubbish trucks! Anyway he seems happy to help whilst the shop remains open so at least for now, I'm in the win for once. Cheers Rob.
