Classic Car Show Shepton Mallet Feb 10th & 11th 2018
Re: Classic Car Show Shepton Mallet Feb 10th & 11th 2018
Thanks John for you unswerving support. I put the kettle on first thing” as usual “ .

Well done, Alan, to brave the rotten weather.
Heavy showers early, then Gillingham really copped a huge sleet storm about 11.00am. Car in ditch between Gillingham and Shaftesbury which failed to navigate a hairpin bend.
I lost my back end temporarily.
JT 7196 & TYF 173F & Q603 AAN (Moss written on spare wheel, Moss Roadster on DVLA) What's the Daimler radiator from? A DJ254? It's got a radiator cap which not all Daimlers had.Heavy showers early, then Gillingham really copped a huge sleet storm about 11.00am. A small stand but two very nicely presented cars...
...and some very nice machinery in the car park ...
...even if it's not 'ours'.
Not wanting to have a serious 'de-mud' afterwards I left the SP at home and went in the Mustang, which ended up being parked behind an identical one - common as muck!

Alan, I didn't see the sucker-fixed overtaking mirror. Did it fall off?
(Not that you could do any overtaking in that car )

Another two cars at the show:
The white one was with Ferraris, I think, but I immediately thought it didn't look like any Ferraris. I was told it's a replica with a BMW engine, but a replica of what? The rear lights look bog-standard mass-production lights and very un-Ferrari. However, the whole car looks very smart. The Jaguar is huge, extremely wide. I'd love to drive it on a track, but on the road? It's from Haynes International Motor Museum at Sparkford, just down the road.

Re: Classic Car Show Shepton Mallet Feb 10th & 11th 2018
They were actually all replicas, John - made by a company called DNA Automotive. The white one is a DNA 2Fifty Cali, and is a rebodied BMW Z3. The others were (I think) a 3Sixty and 4Thirty which are MR2-based, and a 5Cudo, based on a Ford Cougar. They all looked pretty real to us, though!
Nick - didn't realise you were in the Mustang - we did hear a few "comments" about modern tin boxes as we sat eating our pasties, though
A'l - well done on organising the stand and more importantly the tea, biscuits and chairs! Pat and I were most appreciative ( and Louey our dog says "thank you" to Peter for the bit of pastie!) Well done!

Re: Classic Car Show Shepton Mallet Feb 10th & 11th 2018
There were quite a lot of likely looking 'classics' both in the Show and car park that a quick feel under the wheelarch revealed as glassfibre replicas. This however I think was genuine....
Edit:- Having posted the above, just out of interest I checked XBV 943 on the DVLA website - year of manufacture 1950, engine 4257cc!
Hmmmn, so another Mk VI special then - is nothing sacred? (My 'Stang may be a modern box John - but at least it's a genuine modern box... )

Hi Chaps ,many thanks for the overwhelming support and kind words , managed to get my Lanchester back home relatively unscathed , still going to need a few hours to get her bottom clean once more though !
It was relatively busy most of the time and bl...dy cold all of the time unfortunately !
Still it’s always great to meet up with fellow members even though I will have probably have forgotten your names by the time I write this !
Unsure if I shall be doing this particular event next year, but all things being equal, I will still be doing the July and November, plus of course the Classics and Super cars at Sherborne Castle in July ,
Best wishes A’l
