Distributor bottom end.

Post by JRR »

I recently put a new electronic ignition unit in my LD10 distributor. I think I’m a bit too advanced but when I try moving the distributor it moves back before I can relighted it (vaacum pipe seems th be under too much pressure) to stay in position. Could I remove the distributor and move the bottom drive? Is there a way to set the timing withou an assistant? All help appreciated.

This method will work on your own PROVIDING YOU HAVE A 100% HANDBRAKE. Don't try it if the handbrake is iffy.

Apply the handbrake as firmly as you can.

Start engine and select top gear.

Increase engine revs until the flywheel bites (About 1000 - 1100rpm)

Advance the dizzy until the engine starts to pink.

(have your clamp spanner in your right hand!!)

Retard the dizzy until it stops pinking.

Tighten clamp.

Select neutral.

Adjust tickover.

Thanks for quick reply Neil. I’ll have a go at the weekend, but will definitely check my brakes before doing so.
Cheers.
