Unloved Daimler Regency II

Post by Chris_R »

This picture posted recently on a Facebook group entitled Unloved Classic & Retro Cars. Location not given but based on where the author of the post lives and works it's possibly in the Llangadog Carms area of South Wales.
Possibly a Regency II but I think more likely a 104 (I can't tell the difference from this angle).

What's the difference between a Regency and a 104? Is it style or engine?

As far as I know it's engine, maybe a few other bits. It was basically an improved Regency II. The 104 had twin carburettors and was advertised as capable of over 100mph, perhaps 104mph!

Update: I have been informed it is a Regency II. One of just (according to my books) 153 examples made.

I also have the contact details of the owner who could be open to offers. Send me a message if you are interested and I will pass on contact details.

I believe that the Recency had the petrol cap hidden under a neat flap while the 104 may not have. But it's hard to know. The numbers of these cars actually made are really small. I owned 2 of them and while flawed were really very nice to drive. I always regret selling the one I restored.

Well, here you go Hugh, here's your chance for another one then! It is available. Although needing restoration apparently reasonably solid and will run.

Hi,

I have a regency mkII and it has a locking cover for the fuel cap, the dash gauges are a lighter colour rather than black and it has tray tables in the front seat backs... not sure if there's much else to discern the models.

Hi Chris I would happily buy my old 104 back again. Indeed would love to. Buying cars out of Australia is now almost impossible due to anti asbestos checking now being undertaken. The import industry is now dead. Ridiculous considering how widespread asbestos is and the risks are actually minimal if you handle old cars appropriately. But that's our new reality.

Buying a 104 which requires restoration is sadly not viable accept for parts.
Cheers
Hugh

I didn't realise you were in Australia. Yes, I agree not a practical proposition. It's a shame really that things like these will just rot away through lack of interest. It'll probably survive another year or two perhaps and then get scrapped or banger raced.

Hi, I have recently imported 2 classic cars from Australia into the UK and have had no issues with asbestos. I think the main problem is taking classic cars into the country. Shipping was 3500 pounds in total so it can still make sense for a relatively rust free classic.
