Hi Andy, yes it has a fixed Jet, the only adjustment, is using the Idle mixture Screw, but this does not insufluence, the amount of fuel that passes through the Main Jet.
It could possible I suppose to obtain a Jet with a smaller orifice, but not sure what’s available at the moment .
An SU Carburettor would be a much better option altogether, although me being a “Purist”, it does go against the “Grain” somewhat, but probably less painful that having to do another Engine rebuild in the future.
With an SU, one is able to adjust the mixture easily, especially if one uses a Colortune, Simon Rooms, did put forward what seems to be a very good suggestion, saying that when tuning the engine using the above method, if one has an accomplice to hold the Footbrake on ( Handbrake as well I would recommend!) .
then rev the Engine in gear to place the Engine under “ Load” conditions, and adjust the Carburettor whist in this mode.
Let’s face it, Engines spend more time onload than they do idling ( well hopefully ! );
so his idea, does seem to make sense.

Cheers Al :D :D

Hi Andy, yes I could, but as I explained , without a selection of Main Jets try there seems little point.
I have actually just contacted the MG MMM Register as that model also uses the type of SU that I’m looking for, albeit in pairs of course.

I will just have to wait and see what transpires.

Cheers Al

Well, having made lots of phone calls and found it nearly impossible to locate an SU Carburettor of the correct type, on advice from one of the contacts I made, I have decided to stay with the Solex Carb.
As it happens , having spoken to the Chap at Carburettorspecialist.com, He told md me the the Solex as fitted to my engine should be a 26AHD, not the 30 AHD that is currently fitted, not sure what the difference is , but have managed to find a 26AHD Float Chamber including Jets etc on eBay.
If I am fortunate enough to be able to purchase it, I will fit it to see what the difference is using my Colourtune .
In the meantime, I’m awaiting delivery of a new set of Piston Rings.😀😀

Cheers Al :D

Hi Richard, not sure who it was I spoke to,but it did point to the fact that the wrong Carb had been fitted, probably because it was the only type that was available at time.
The only part the I’m not certain about would be the Emulsion Tube.
Need to try and get more info on that.

Cheers A’l 😊

Hello Al,

I reckon it would have been Eric, did you mention the emulsion tube when you spoke with him ?? I think he would certainly be able to assist and / or perhaps Burlen. I know they have not been able to assist that much so far (not their fault), but their directory / library may well have the information you seek.

It really is a case of bouncing from one supplier to another to gather such info; without a doubt it is out there somewhere.

An interesting and informative thread.

Hi Richard, taken a look at the Burlen website, and it would appear that they only cater for the later types of Solex Carbs unfortunately.
Cheers A’l

Hello Al,

Mmmmm.

A return call to Carburettor Exchange may be prudent bearing in mind their boast regarding vintage spares - more so now, as you need to determine the correct ET's for the Solex(s)
