V8-250 Saloon: Main Beam Warning Light Colour

Post by classiclife »

Hello,

The headlight main beam warning light colour lens on my car is RED.

Is this correct ??

As far as I can recall, the colour on all my previous and other current classics display a blue lens warning light.

I have checked the drivers handbook, but the colour is not mentioned - whereas it does for the ignition and low fuel warning lights; red & amber respectively.

Many thanks.

Having owned my V8 250 for 22 years without the high beam light working I recently grasped the nettle and put in a new globe (never again). To my surprise the light was RED not blue as I expected.

Cheers

Michael - I presume a lot of faff just to replace the bulb, is that how I read it ??

Hi Richard,

A lot of faff is a charming English way of putting it. An absolute pig of a job😟

Thanks Michael,

I do not think I have escaped this task, as I need to replace the speedometer cable - so faff is most certainly heading my way I believe  !!

Best wishes.

Interesting to see this topic come up. I found the red main beam tell-tale distracting, so when the speedo required an overhaul (it started making a dry screeching sound...), Speedograph Richfield replaced it with a blue jewel light. Whilst a blue light is not original, I find it far less distracting.

I agree the red light is very distracting, I almost wish I'd left well enough alone. Now where have I heard that before?

I agree entirely with those last two observations, regarding the red light, was that a "Daimler thing", as I cannot see the logic of using a lens of that colour which normally signifies a warning rather than a confirmation.

No not just a Daimler thing. My Austin A90 has a red main beam warning light. Maybe it's a 50s thing.

Oil lights also seem to vary. Some cars green others orange.
