I'm not exactly sure which car this is, but I last saw it a couple of years ago for sale in Scotland. The ad from then is still online:

Caveat emptor as always, but the car does seem nice/unmessed with, and the price is reasonable. It would look better with the boot area painted black I think.

Re: 1938 EL24 for sale
Dave P tells me this is likely to be chasisis 48060, registered WUP 306 in Jun 1957 (off road in storage during the war?) and formerly belonging to Dave Hollingshead. This is the only other pic I have of it, looking somewhat better in this colour scheme I think.

What a stunning motor car, in a tidy colour, I mean the black, would not take much to get it back to black.
Still a mystery why they are so much less appreciated than a RR.

Re: 1938 EL24 for sale
Just noticed on a closer look that WUP 306 has wing mounted spares, as does the car that was listed in Scotland a couple of years back, the current one does not have wing mounts nor can I see any evidence of wheel wells on the wings.
Would it be likely that they will have been removed and the wings covered over?
In my humble opinion, they do look more period with wing mounts. Syd

Re: 1938 EL24 for sale
The text in the advert says it has a wing mounted spare but there are no photos showing the driver’s side of the car.
But why oh why have they painted it like so, in my opinion it is inelegant on the car. There’s a Consort for sale on the same site (and more money) painted in a similar style in blue over white. They were never white and it simply cheapens the look of the car.
Just my opinion and others will differ (especially the seller!).

Ha! had another close look at the photos on the Classic car site and on one of them, taken from the front you can make out a spare on the driver side, over the bonnet.
I was wrong, but I agree Graham, the car would look so much better in one colour, I like black but I have seen on in a "mild" silver which looked superb.

Re: 1938 EL24 for sale
It does have a single side mounted spare on the offside, but looking at another picture from an ad in a current classic car mag, it appears to have lost the wheel disc. I agree they are very under rated compared to a Rolls-Royce. This car would have been competing with late 25/30 or early Wraith models - whilst they are lovely cars, the 25/30 has a very fragile engine.

Re: 1938 EL24 for sale
As you say Mark and if it were a 25/30, the price tag would be 3-4 times the price of this car and I just cant see why, other than the RR radiator grill they are as good as equal in all other respects. Syd

And the ironic thing is that today, the price of a pre-war RR is largely dictated by the body style and coachbuilder, which more often than not wasn't Rolls-Royce! Here's the 1937 25/30 I owned - beautiful Rippon body and interior, but the engine was scrap.

WUP 306 up for sale again. The price appears about the same, and it has a full complement of wheel discs again. It really is a lovely looking car.
