51 Consort parts needed

Post by formulakoala »

I have recently acquired a 51 Dailmer Consort that I need to find a few parts for. I am looking for a grille, front and rear lights, and mirrors

Hi Shane, welcome to the forum.

Sure you will have fun with the consort. Parts are part of the adventure. Joining the daimler and lanchester owners club is recommended, as well as joining in on the forum.

It would be good to know more about the car, is it a runner or restoration. Are the parts missing or broken ?

If you let us know a bit more, then I'm sure we can help.

Good luck

The car is pretty gutted and rough, I got it in a trade. Someone mounted the body to an s10 frame with a chevy motor and chopped the roof off. The parts that I need are missing. I really like the look of the original parts so I am hoping to find some. I see that parts for these, especially what I need, are hard to come by so I am not going to be picky about the condition of them.

Shane,

1) The Front Headlights are 7 inch Lucas items PF700 Type. They were widely used in the late40's to mid-Fifties.

They were used on Daimlers, but also Jaguars and many other English marques, so best look for the type, rather than focus on Daimler

(you can get new or second hand, but have a look a British parts suppliers in the USA otherwise cost of postage will be high).

2) The Rear lamps are another Lucas item - L467, commonly called "D" Type - they are shaped like a letter D.

You meed 2. The ones for Consort are a variant of this lamp, but not easily found, and not as a reproduction. Again they were used on lots of
English cars of the period.

Look for ones with twin bulbs for stop and tail-lights, plus a c;esr window in the side to illumoinate the number-plate.

3) Grill is used on the Consort, and the Sports Special Models.

I cant see one available in the UK at the moment, but will keep an eye-open. Do you have any soyrces in the USA ?

good luck

regards

There is a grille on ebay currently.
The rear lights should have different glass lenses. One is totally red but the other is half red and half sand blasted clear.
If you can find the headlights listed as Daimler they will be half the price of ones listed for the Jaguar XK120 etc.
I might have some old rear lights for reconditioning. Give me a couple of days and I will check.
For members if the DLOC it is possible to place a parts wanted advert in the club magazine. We still have members who don't use the internet so worth trying.

If it is a Consort the headlights are PF770 not PF700. You can check fairly easily PF770 is 7 3/4 inch diameter and the PF700 is 7 inch diameter. There is currently some PF770 headlights on e-bay, rarer and dearer thanPF700.

"Nick - do you think you will ever put that old car back together again?"

Thanks for the help. I have found a 53 Consort grille in Australia, just waiting for a shipping quote. Also found a 51 Conquest grille that I am considering if the Consort grille falls through. I still can't find the headlight housings or the small fender marker lights. Still considering trying to find the bumpers as well.

I found this set of headlights:

This set of mirrors:

Hi,
You should contact the seller of the mirrors, John Nash who is Landcruiser 102. John is the founder of the Daimler Enthusiasts Club and if you join the club you may find he has everything you need and can get them from him.
I haven't heard from you further about the Australian spares, and I suspect that the freight for the grille will be very high. Maybe better to trace parts from the UK.
Cheers

These are the spare lights that I have. They need some work but useful to have a picture just in case you can find some others in better condition.
