Hi Chaps, well just embarked on removing the engine once more, owing to it sounding like a Bag if Nails !!
Initially I removed the Inket/ Exhaust manifold , only to find Oil coming out of the No 1 & No 2 Inlet Port of the Cylinder Head ( Photos below) , on removal of the Head it was obvious that No 2 & No 3 Pistons appeared to have excessive play, this I believe to be cause by the Oil Control Rings on these have fractured, maybe on Assy, fortunately at this point I have found no evidence of damage the any of the Cylinder Bores.
The next stage will be to remove the Engine for further examination, and will report my findings in due course.

I have included a photo showing the method I used to hold the Rocker Shaft parts together prior to removal from the Cylider Head. Those of you who have removed this Assy, will know only too well how difficult it is to keep all the working parts together ! ! 😂😂

Cheers Al 😊😊😊

Hi Chaps, well if it’s possible to feel relieved and disappointed at the same time, then that time has just arrived !
I have now stripped the Engine, fully expecting to find a number of broken Piston Rings in the Sump, but no, all the Piston Rings are intact ,so why the horrible cacophony that’ my Engine has been emitting and why was there Oil dripping out of the Inlet Manifold on No’s 1 & 2 Port ?
The only evidence I had before stripping the Engine, was that I could “Rock” the offending Pistons easily in the Cylinder Bores , ( Especialy in No 2 Bore) now the Pistons have been removed intact without the broken Piston Rings I expected, is as you will be able to see in the pictures below, there does seem to be excessive “Scuffing” on all of them.
This may have been caused by the fact that the Pistons were supplied with the wrong size Rings fitted ,( allowing a 0.062” gap to be found when placed into the Bores !! )
which with hindsight ( wonderful thing that !! ) I should have checked prior to building the Engine last year( but who does ?) maybe this caused more wear on the Pistons than I thought when I stripped it recently, to fit the correct sized ones , anyway , I shall take the Cylinder Block , Pistons etc to my local Engine reconditioning company,
( Cox & TaylorTintinhull Somerset) and get Ian Cox to measure everything to try and find what’s going on !
Anyway, here are some pictures for you to peruse over, on these dark dank evenings, your comments would be most welcome 😊😊😊

Ps , Not sure why the bottom picture gets “Stretched” when enlarged ! 😊

So going back to the noise Al, how would you describe it?

:D Hi , well very hard to describe, basically sounds like a combination of extreme Tappet noise and loud Piston Slap.
I may be able to put my video on here
, but beware, “Those with a nevous disposition would be advised to turn your volume Down! “
Anyway, investigated why there was so much Oil in the Inlet Ports, so removed the Inlet Valves, to my amazement, it would appear that the Oil is coming down the Valve Guides, and the Valve Stem Seals that I fitted on Three out of the Four Inlet Valves they had become hard and disintegrated ! Oil was literally running out fron the Inlet Valves when removed !
Perhaps I have too much Oil being injected by the Rocker Gear,, bearing in mind that I do have a brand new Oil Pump fitted.
This leads me to another question, the Feed Pipe Union attached to the Cylinder Head has a Screw in the end of it ,that appears to do nothing ,owing to its short length, although not “listed” in my parts book, should this Union have a Tapered Screw to restrict the flow ?
Is it possible that the sheer amount of oil that appears to be entering the Combustion Chambers via the Inlet Valve ,is causing the “Piston s to knock “ ?

Your thoughts please, from a very confused A’l 😕😕😕😕

Sorry, unable to load the Video, as it’s too large apparently 😕😕

Maybe if too much oil is entering the combustion chamber the effective compression ratio is being raised to the point where the engine is pinking? Could this be the noise you're hearing?

Having said that you would expect misfiring with all that oil sloshing around. Were the plugs oily?
