Can I thank everyone for their help, I now understand the tyre sizes, crossply and radial, and I didn't know the original tyres where 80 profile/height.So the 185x65x15 which luckily, I only bought 2, will have to be replaced with 75 or 80 .

185/80/15 is the way to go.

The fact you have non-PAS, the steering will be heavy with radials when maenouvering the car for parking etc. However once the car is moving this will disappear almost immediately.

You will find that the above tyre size is not well catered for via the usual outlet suspects, being more aligned with vans and taxis etc. As such you must ensure that your speed and load rating is 91H and not greater; the higher the number the less flexibility / suppleness you will have in the tyre and this will result in a dreadful handling car.

Blockley have been mentioned - a good choice and of course Vredestein which I opted for. To give you a guide my tyres cost £135 each (slightly more now) including fitting, I ordered using the Web via one of the online outlets that cater for delivery of such tyres.

If you are unsure about the tyre make / type you want, do not hesitate to come back here as I have no doubt there will be plenty of advice to assist you.

Regards.

The original size was 6.40 x 15 which according to Longstone is 185R15 91H TL Vredestein Sprint Classic plus some others at huge prices, Vredestein's other 185 x 15 tyre is a 70 series therefore its tyre diameter is less than a 185/80 tyre having only a side wall of 70% of its width
Owner since the 70's, Genghis is slightly to my left.

The price is absolutely ridiculous for the premium 185/80/15 tyres with a low load index.

Just by putting the work Sport or Classic in the title seems to give the OK to charge the earth. SP250 owners are getting fleeced just fill out the wheel arches!

I'm thinking of putting some commercial cargo van tyres on and to hell with the ride comfort!

185/80R15C
Load index 103/102
Speed rating R, 106mph

5x tyres fitted is £300...

Maybe, but Vredistein is good value compared to others.
Vredestein 185/80 R15 91H £131
Michelin XAS 180R15 89H £188
Dunlop 185/80R15 93W £202

I'm surprised no one's mentioned remoulds yet!

The old adage rings true ,you get what you pay for.

I wouldn't risk my 250 on cheap tyre's.

Years ago you used to be able to buy 'RQ' tyres. RQ stood for Remould Quality and were tyres that were imperfect in some respect, usually something like a discrepancy in tread pattern They were not actually remoulds but were significantly cheaper than their equivalent 'A' grade tyres. Does anyone else remember them?

I ran my SP for many years on RQ Michelin XAS's and they were fine. The only time I had a problem was with a set of RQ Dunlop Sports; these were so out of round it was like driving a bouncy castle!
