According to Laurence there are now five out of every eight SP's produced has been accounted for.
Quite remarkable for anything being mass produced 60 years ago to have that survival rate.

Re: 5 out of 8
Hi Bud,
A small but important point.
This means he knows what happened to them, where they are…… or where bits of them are …..
Take my garage for example.
I have my car that I'm restoring
I also have 2 complete "extra" body's, with tags. plus another 1 in pieces ( No Tag & No ID ) .
I have 3,5 "eaxtra" Chassis, no ID's, 2 are is really good & 1 is basically scrap. The half is only the front end of a chassis
I have 2 "Dart" engines. 1 in my car & 1 came from a scrap yard in Scotland around 1976, along with a gearbox, windscreen etc etc. The Engine & Gearbox number clearly identified the car, which was scrapped in 1976.
So, according to Laurences list, I can positively account for 4 cars …… ( Mine, 2 "extra" Bodies & a scrapped car in Scotland )
only 1 will ever run. ( Maybe 2 since I'm slowly collecting enough parts )
I would argue that the other "2" that I have will NEVER be complete cars … no Chassis, no engine, pedals, window winders, etc etc etc ie they have not survived, but are accounted for.

Re: 5 out of 8
Have you got engine number 89089 which was my original engine?
Re: 5 out of 8
Sorry John, I don't
Laurence must have a list ( overview ) of the engine numbers. When I first got in touch with him ( about 10 years ago) he stated that my engine came from car "X" & that car "X" had my engine. I remember asking him to give me the contact details of the owner, to arrange a possible swap back. He wouldn't pass on the Info ( Correct IMHO ) . We guessed that both cars had had some engine work done on them, at the same time in some garage & the engines had got inadvertendly switched.
Maybe Laurence knows where your engine is, or even if it is currently known.
In the mean time my engine has been done by Russ, so I'm not interested in a swap now. So mine isn't a matching numbers car …. I'm not loosing any sleep.

Re: 5 out of 8
Hi
I have been having some difficulty with engine numbers recently. However Margaret's car engine is what was known in the day as a factory exchange unit. The original engine is now in a car in Scotland. The engine now fitted was originally fitted to a car in Yorkshire. In the day factory exchange engines were common to all makes. you sent your engine via the agent to the factory and they sent you a refurbished engine.
Regards
Colin
