My speedo cable from my overdrive has expired. It is an A type overdrive and the cable comes out of the overdrive and has to run under the drivers side carpet to reach the speedo. It is quite a sharp bend from the overdrive and my new cable from DM has expired after a few miles. I am therefore thinking of using a right angle take off so as not have the sharp bend. I have spoken to Overdrive services and they have had problems with the ones they sell in as much they last a couple of years. Where do others buy a reliable right angle drive from.
Thanks, Paul

A type overdrive
Re: A type overdrive
The right angled drives have just as many, if not more than, the straight cable. They either fall apart or leak oil like a sieve. If your cable is wearing out as quick as you say then it is probably not run concurrently.

Re: A type overdrive
Thank you for your replies, I should have said the car is an SP. Having read about the problems with angle drives I think it might be better to use a longer cable so that there is not such an acute bend from where it is connected to the overdrive. The cable has to pass underneat the carpet as the speedo take off on the A type overdrive is well above the floor level.
Thanks again Paul
Thanks again Paul
Re: A type overdrive
Forgot to say, it is standard practice to use a longer cable on overdrives so the bend is not restrictive.
The normal cable suppliers can usually make them to order if you tell them how much longer you require over the normal length.

Thanks again to you both for the replies.
Richard what an interesting company Speedograph is. So I have ordered a 60 inch cable which should gave plenty to get round the problem of tight bends and not have to use a right angle drive. Their prices are so much more reasonable than other companies. Speedograph do show a good selection of different type of drive. Well worth looking at their website.

Re: A type overdrive
Just as an aside to this thread, if a 'J' type overdrive is fitted the speedo drive cable still passes under the floor but does need to be longer. The answer is a LHD cable - available from Barry Thorne.

Re: A type overdrive
Richard, just to let you know the new lengthend speedo cable from Speedograph has been fitted and gets around the problem of a right angle drive. Total cost £20 covering P&P so much cheaper than DM, I don't know about Barry.
Thanks Paul
