1933 LA10 differential, help needed

Post by chrisjb »

The nearside half shaft on my LA10 has almost seized. I have a spare axle so I thought that I would find my way around on that. Having slid out both half shafts and lifted the bearing caps in the dif, I can lift the cage and worm wheel slightly until it is blocked. I suspect that the inner race is fatter than the outer race so gets caught. What is the next step please?. Chris.

It's out!. I just knew that it ought to pull out but it was being blocked. After some pressure washing with paraffin out came half of a split pin. It has to come out square so one side blocked locks it. I can now progress.
The half shaft on the near side that is partially seized has obviously got warm as it is discoloured.
I will keep you posted if I find anything odd.
Chris
