Hello Steve,

I presume you are running a 80W fan if your stated continuous amp rating is approx. 7 amp ??

You need to take in to consideration that the initial electric fan start-up pulls a higher amperage which for a 80W fan will be in the vicinity of 12amp. As such you need to ensure your fuse rating covers this.

If you have not selected your wiring yet, may I suggest you look at Thinwall Cable. It is the new style modern wiring which by its name is thinner and more flexible than the old style traditional car cable. More importantly, it carries a higher amp rating per mm2 cross section which is a very useful safety factor.

Regards.

Thank you Richard,
sorry for the late response but I have just returned from a 380 mile round trip in my SP around Northumberland and let me say the car performed wonderfully well.
I fitted the fan and wired it from the Horn feed and that is obviously not through the ignition switch and the fan has run most times that I have parked the car, It runs for about 5 minutes and during that period I have started the car with no problem.
I have thought about fitting an isolator switch to completely isolate the fan for starting purposes but I thought I may forget to switch it on and end up with a boiled engine so I think as the car has performed so well on my trip I will leave it as is.

Steve.

Hello Steve,

Sounds a good course of action and the journey (well done) has certainly assisted that decision.

Best wishes.
