Hello my dear friends,
I just replaced all the 6 rod ends on a Daimler DB18. The new rod ends set was sold without any greaser.
The old greasers (1/4"), removed from the old rod ends, are too large for the new rod ends, so I ordered some 1/8" greasers to MOSS, but they are too small !!
Any suggestions... ?
Thanks,
Julian

Daimler DB18 rod end greaser
Re: Daimler DB18 rod end greaser
Julian, have you asked the supplier of the track rod ends ? Who knows what size or thread has been used.
If all else fails, drill and tap to match the old grease nipples (if they are serviceable).

Re: Daimler DB18 rod end greaser
Of course I tried to contact the supplier but no news for the moment.
And to be honest with you, the car is ready to go after a very long journey into my workshop and I'm happy to see it go !!
I will try to measure by myself the thread size and let you know.

If your replacement rod ends are modern manufacture the grease nipple holes may well be metric.

"Nick - do you think you will ever put that old car back together again?"

The new ones look like vintage ones but you're maybe right...

You might find that the threads are bsf or bsp. It depends on if they were made for Daimler or Austin.
It’s something I wasn’t aware of until Sunday.

Re: Daimler DB18 rod end greaser
I think Nick might well be right - as you are in France and its more likely your track-rod ends were made on the continent, they could be metric.
The solution therefore is to trot off to your local "nut and bolt" stockist and see what screws into them - that will identify the thread form and you can order your grease nipples accordingly. (or just try whatever bolts you can find etc.).
Stan Thomas.
P.S.
I don't advocate drill and tapping another size - firstly because the swarf will go inside - and secondly, there is probably too little depth of material for the starter (taper) tap to get a purchase.

Drilling and tapping the new rod ends is not in my intention, for the same reasons you gave.
The new rod ends come from UK so not sure they're metric...

The nipples (or greasers as I say !!) should be 5/16 UNF 24.
If anyone has any idea to purchase them...
