I like the idea of the electronic conversion. Mine is a practical used vehicle - it should look and feel 'right' - but it doesn't always have to be original in every way!

I will investigate. New plugs are on order - I forget they simply don't last as long.

thought I had sent you an email to let you know the car simply wasn't running well enough to risk driving down. Still backfiring - another suggestion may be to fit a new set of plug leads... anyone do them made up with caps etc?

Best and cheapest way is to make up your own leads - as its a very simple job as you can buy copper cored H.T. lead by the metre, and six plug caps of your choice.

The engine will start immediately as you don't have to wait for the electric to go through the new H.T. lead as it comes pre-filled with electric from the manufacturers.

some improvement. fitted new plugs, I have changed one of the plug leads which was dodgy and checked the contact gap. I think it improves if I turn the advance retard to the left (just to underline my ignorance since the markings are no longer legible I dont know which that is!) . My next step will be to check the carb - it is probably 40 years since I last did this for myself! Plenty guidance on utube etc no doubt.
