Hello,
I'm due to convert my V8-250 saloon from auto to manual transmission over the next couple of months.
Part of my quest for the conversion is to try and secure a MANUAL TRANSMISSION TUNNEL, which I know will be thin on the ground !!
I may have identified one opportunity but am still looking around in case that option comes to nothing.
Any suggestions or advice on locating one of these will be very much appreciated.

Hi, not much help but they are a fibreglass moulding, and I've not seen one for sale at all as a single unit, they are similar to the jag mk2 moulding but still quite a bit different tho. mainly the gear lever aperture location. maybe somebody on here can help make a pattern from their one? mine is still on my car Tony

It would be a major operation to convert, as AFAIK it is not just the top cover which is different, but the metal fabrication of the tunnel as part of the bodyshell. Most people who convert Jaguars to manual boxes do not bother altering the tunnel. Note that to get the gearlever in the right place, it is essential to source a Daimler top cover for the all-synchro box, which have a longer rearwards extension than the Jaguar boxes

Thanks for your email and information - much appreciated.
The manual conversion will use the Toyota Supra W58 5-speed g/box, along with the ancillary units supplied by Colin Dray of Conversion Components in NZ; the latter of which I have already.
A bespoke gearstick assembly is made to counter the required angle issue.
I will know more once I start the work.

Hi Richard,
I'd be keen to know how you go as I am about to install a conversion components supplied supra 5 speed in my v8 and was wondering whether there'd be a chance to reclaim some footwell space from the tunnel on the driver's side. Size 13 shoes and not much space!

Richard : I think you need to establish what the difference is between the two. I encountered this problem when trying to replace the rubber gaiter on my 2.5 V8. On the Daimler this is square section, but on the Jaguar it is circular ( or is it the other way round ? without going and looking i can't remember ) . As a result I had to make up a light alloy adapter ring because i could only get hold of a Jaguar type gaiter. It was not a big job

Hello Nigel - noted and will keep you informed; I've gone for the same supplier, Colin Dray. Once the g/box is in situ I will be able to photograph from underneath which should indicate any opportunities to reclaim floor space.

Hello Chris - I have attached a couple of photos (one of which the V8, is kindly supplied by another DLOC member - thank you Paul) the V8 is the top photo. Both have square-ish apertures.
It was SNG Barratt who were under the impression that one tunnel fits both and this is not the case.
The photos show the difference, in particular the gear stick gaiter hole position - one being angled slightly lower.
It may well be the case that I end up with a Jag Mk2 fibre glass tunnel and rework it with fibre glass to produce the correct shape - not a big job either and oddly I like working with fibre glass
Sounds as though I need to run a separate thread covering the work !!!!
