How much play is recommended on the Fan belt - is 1/2inch too tight?

Older cars don’t like too much tension. Unless the water pump etc have been adapted to modern bearings, then I would only tension them to a half inch and no more. That said if you do have to tension them more to get drive then the actual pulleys may be worn.

Before I tighten it up - I thought I'd order a spare - just in case3 - found out I had too bigger width belt on so am now about to install the correct one.

I was sent a fanbelt form a classic car specialist who sent me a Power Transmission Plu B-41 - while it fits even when I have taken all the slack using the Dynamo adjuster it still feels slack - though it works. Does anyone have an opinion please?

How much movement have you got on the longest run of the belt? If it's more than 1/2 to 3/4 inch that' s too much and the belt is too long.

I think I have a belt somewhere with the original number on it, I'll try and find it and post the number on here. I seem to remember they are quite a wide section.
