Dart Valve stem seal

Post by hum966 »

Question about valve stem seals

I’ve been looking through past posts about valve guide seals; I found one about using viton in a 'mini' stem seal part LJQ 101160 which is of interest. My Dart engine is showing smoke when the throttle is closed, so maybe the inlet valve guide is leaking oil. The valve guides were fitted a while ago and were supplied by DMG and came with the black rubber seal to attach to the ‘modified’ valve guide.
At the time when I fitted the guides I decided to omit the seals as they seemed a very tight fit on the valve stem. Now with some oil burning it might be better with a seal fitted (such is life).
Looking at the ‘DMG rubber mini? seal’, the through hole is nominally 7mm, which is close to the mini valve stem diameter of 9/32”. My question is ; is there a viton seal for the Dart stem 5/16” (8mm aaprox) which would be a better fit ?

Rgds Brian.

the later B.L. 'A' plus engines used a valve stem seal which will fit the 2 1/2 litre turner V8 ( I beIieve you quoted to correct part number) when fitted with the modified valve guides that are machined for a seal and are currently supplied by most jaguar/daimler parts specialists ..they can also be fitted to original guides as long as groove is machined near the top of guide to retain the seal.. these seals vary in quality and lifespan.. the 'better' ones are made of a harder material and are commonly white in colour.. most engine supply houses have valve stem seals that are classified by their dimensions.. however.. those supplied by places such as SNG barratt and David manners specifically for the daimler V8 are known to be decent quality..

I seem to remember the seal fitted to the Metro turbo is the one you require.
