Introducing myself

Post by alex_gray255 »

Hi everyone

Just wanted to quickly introduce myself.

My name is Alex and I have just bought a Lanchester 1937 Roadrider type 14 which I am intending to
recommission over the winter.

The car is in pretty good condition considering its age, but the engine, roof and interior need some TLC.
The car has been in storage for the last 7-8 years and has not been actively run - apart from the occasional
engine start and roll.

The chassis is solid and the engine looks to be ok, but it is struggling to idle and run. I put this down to
the condition of the petrol which is over 8 years old and the fact the engine has not had a good service
for years and years.

Wish me luck!

Alex

I wish you goold luck.
I'm a fan o preselector gerabox cars and I like to see more in working condition.
Unfourtenley in the place where I live there aren't too many preselctor gerabox cars (5 in a country) and most are in a museum.

Valves (electronic tubes) are for audio what preselector gearboxes are for cars.

Thanks for posting the video link. Looks splendid. Very original interior. Do you know much of it’s history? All these, Ranald

There is a history file - quite a detailed one - but not had a chance to go through it yet.

I will probably do so once the car it back up and working.

Update so far...
  • Engine is now working ok
  • Pre-selector working ok
  • Interior is out and waiting re-trim
  • Headlining needs replacing
  • Sunroof + roof needs replacing
  • Various wood needs replacing (no surprise there)
  • Tank needs replacing or ceramic coating
  • Wood supporting back seats needs replacing (underway)
  • Speedo needs fixing
  • Fuel sender unit is rusted solid - needs old or modern replacement
  • Indicators not working consistently - wiring?
  • Fuel reserve level is frozen - rust probably or may just need a good "hammer of power" session
  • Various seals need replacement as rubber is perished
  • Gearbox mount needs replacing
...but she has been road tested and lives (sort of...)
