V8-250 Saloon: Thermostat

Post by classiclife »

Hello,

Am I right in thinking that the V8-250 saloon takes the standard 82 degree thermostat, as was found in many classics of that era ??

Thank you in advance.

Regards.

Hi, yes there are a few versions of the thermostat, I fitted my with a 70-75c sleeve type as fitted to the xk engines, but the sleeve type are a bit more expensive than the standard type, never had a sleeve type fail on me, well put it this way mine is 17 years old and has never failed to open and close, as long as the coolant is clean and replaced than there should be no issues. these are not specified for the Daimler v8 but mine has been in my v8 for that long so they must be ok. ton. https://www.sngbarratt.com/UK/#!/Englis ... df6f288830

Thanks Tony - much appreciated and thermostat issue now sorted.

Here's another "Starter for Ten" open to all !!

Does anyone know the thread size on the temperature sender unit by the thermostat housing, please ??

Many thanks.

IF (a big if) it is the same as the SP250, it is 5/16 UNF.

AND YOU ARE RIGHT!!!!

My wife is always telling me that my memory has gone; 5/8 UNF it is!

I know it is right this time because I have just checked the adapter I ordered and fitted last week.

Apologies for any confusion!

Simon

Hello Simon,

Many thanks and no apology required, always useful to get every possibility to a question.

Is your adaptor for a Daimler requirement ??

Best wishes.

Hi, Richard.

No, not a Daimler requirement per se. I have changed the water temp gauge (purists look away now) to a Smiths Cobra type, since that matches the oil temp gauge I have fitted instead of the ammeter. The gauge I had was an unbranded one that didn't work with the sensor fitted and I did not want to spend the time trying to find original parts. However, the new gauge came with a sensor that has a 1/8" NPT thread so I needed an adapter to fit it into the Dart "hole".

With best wishes,

Simon
