Does anybody know the construction of the oil filler cap that fits into the rocker cover?
I'm specifically referring to the LD10, but I'm fairly sure that it's a similar cap on many Daimlers and Lanchesters.
I know that around the inner circumference there is a piece of braided rope which effects the seal.
Between the top cover and the inner clip piece these is (or should be) a piece of material which I'd like to identify.
I'm guessing it's a disc of cork, but it might have been something else... cardboard or leather, perhaps.
There's nothing in mine and I'd like to improve it while the engine's being rebuilt.

Re: Rocker Cover Oil Filler Cap
I've dismantled mine now, in preparation to fitting a cork disc.
I'm fairly sure it was cork originally, or if it wasn't, I think a 2mm piece of cork will do the job.
The piece of rope I'm not so sure about... I'm beginning to think that it was added to mine because most of the cork had disappeared.
Can anyone confirm the existence or otherwise of a rope seal around the inside lip?

No matter... Peter Riches has found a load of examples on Ebay for me:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143935312081

It would seem that the piece of rope wound around the inside edge of mine was to replace a missing cork gasket.
I'll make a new one.

Re: Rocker Cover Oil Filler Cap
Just to wrap this thread up, here's my rebuilt filler cap.
I cut a 2mm thick cork sheet to fit inside the cap.
On the outside I painted over the lettering with black enamel, and then used wet & dry paper to remove the excess surface paint.
I fitted a washer with exactly the right ID to go on the shaft from the knob, and then peened over the end of the shaft to lock it all back together.
