Re: V8 saloon coolant circulation

I agree John, that's why I thought it was worth a mention. My personal choice for my classics is Granville Sub Zero Blue; it is a Monoethylene Glycol based antifreeze that does not contain nitrates, amines or phosphates. It also contains corrosion inhibitors suitable for aluminium engines along with...

Re: V8 oil leak from inhibitor switch

Hello Steve, If oil is getting past the thread, you can use PTFE tape. Ensure there is a bit of thread showing at the end and that you wind the tape (a few turns is sufficient) in the same direction as the thread going into the auto-box; namely clockwise. The alternative is to use a smear of air bra...

However, I would expect any of these to result in serious overheating which was not happening. The car warms up as expected and temp stays in the normal range Hello Steve, Your observation in the quote is spot-on. If the thermostat remained closed or the pump was failing to circulate the water corr...

Re: 1968 Daimler V8 250 in Hamson Auction 18 Nov 2020 NUO772G

Hello Graham,

Looks as though the car has a recorded mid-60K mileage.

Interesting fuel filter assembly in lieu of the correct item and the earlier model air intake fitted.

Re: Any advise when getting bumpers chromed?

Hello, Looks a very decent car from the photo. Derby Plating is a very good company - not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for especially in that field. http://derbyplating.co.uk/ I have always found them very helpful and certainly worth a call; in addition you are well placed to their locatio...

Re: Differential

Hello Dave, Personally, I would not use GL5 nor can I confirm off the top of my head if there is a yellow metal within the diff - probably not. You are correct to be concerned about using GL5 further, if that has been used in the past. Classic cars in the main are GL4 spec with regard to transmissio...

Re: Fuel Additives

Hello Steven, Leaving the DB18 model aside, fuel additives or any type of additive is very much a subjective plus personal interpretation. Some folk agree with certain additives, whilst others never use them. It appears the PO was covering all possible permutations with his "medicine cupboard" !! On...
