Re: SP 250 vertical links

Roger Sorry, thanks for putting me right, I missed it. £1200 represents good value relative to what Barry quoted long ago, which I think was around £1500/pr. What would that be now ~£5k perhaps? I think I'll pass for now however, as I do have a little used pair tucked away, somewhere!. Regards Geoff

Re: SP 250 vertical links

For all you metallurgists out there, is the strength of a drop forged item likely to alter over time? And how old before the risk of breakage becomes a concern? Or is that not an issue? We're not talking about extraordinary alloys made for highly stressed WWII era piston engines after all, although ...

Re: SP 250 vertical links

Hi everyone I'd not heard of John Giddings remanufactured vertical links. Does anyone know how/when/ how many/£how much? Was this though the SP250 Owners' Club website, or did I miss it here? How strong are they compared to the original? They can shear off at the top of the threaded portion. When Ba...

Re: UFOs & Aliens

Hi everyone I've just come across the following item that is highly relevant to our discussions and contributed by two very eminent thinkers, but I'm not sure just how easily accessible it is. I get there easily if I paste the following into my address bar, but my PC knows where it is already becaus...

Re: UFOs & Aliens

Gentlemen Recommended reading from the 'We ARE Alone' front line. I came across the book 'Rare Earth' by Peter Ward and Don Brownlee late last year, as a result of the discussions in this thread. It was first published in 1999, I don't know how I missed it then, but never mind. The authors are both ...

Re: Rolls-Royce Merlin fluid drive supercharger

Steve I recently bought The Secret Horsepower Race too, but I've only just started reading it. It is a pleasant surprise to find that the author doesn't just have the same surname but also lives just a short distance from me in semi-rural Scotland. Although I've not attempted to contact him yet, I'l...

Re: sp 250 Wire wheel conversion

Steven I strongly concur with those who recommend using original pattern splined front hubs; using bolt-on splined adaptors at the front: a) looks awful, spoils the look of the car b) also looks cheap and is easily identifiable, c) can easily split the front wheelarches if tyres larger than 165R15 a...

Re: UFOs & Aliens

To return to my favourite topic in this fascinating thread, the unlikliness of the evolution of intelligent life, another obstacle to be overcome by any life on any particular planet is to experience the right number of the right type of mass extinctions. A documentary on the topic of mass extinctio...
